How Advertising Succeeds in a Multimedia Age

The second edition of Ads to Icons examines current and future trends in advertising. Through 50 international case studies of new and iconic advertising campaigns, author Paul Springer identifies why these campaigns were successful and analyzes their contribution to the continued development of advertising.

New digital formats analyzed include Google’s AdSense and AdWords, which reworked their search facility as a revenue-generating advertising service. This updated new edition includes an online campaign entitled Non Stop Fernando which exploits the potential of online film. It also features the new Nike+ case study, which details Nike’s third party association with Apple iPod through Nike+ and brought together Apple’s digital know-how and music expertise with Nike’s industry sector experience.

The author shows how traditional media have been revitalized by the adoption of revolutionary approaches to their use, making the resulting ads more creative and impactful than before. Other campaigns have extended beyond conventional formats, including a text messaging campaign for Cadbury chocolate and Levi’s campaign involving Flat Eric, a character used to drive viral communication before the television commercials aired.

Finally, Springer discusses the impact of current advertising trends on the structure of agencies and job functions, illustrated by profiles of industry professionals.

Google Page Creator migrating to Google Sites

You may have heard that Google Page Creator is migrating to Google Sites, and will no longer be accessible for users. If you host some of your blog's content in Google Page Creator, you have to Google Sites. For blogger.com users, you can update automatically from blogger admin panel.

However, for those of you who have relied on Google Page Creator to store images, template code (HTML/Javascript/CSS snippets), or other files, you will have to find a new place to host them. Third party templates and widgets may also contain files pointing to Google Page Creator.

The good news though is that we've built a tool which will make updating your references very easy. Here is how it works

See better ads in Gmail

When you open a message in Gmail, you often see ads related to that email. Let's say you're looking at a confirmation email from a hotel in Chicago. Next to your email, you might see ads about flights to Chicago.

But sometimes, there aren't any good ads to match to a particular message. From now on, you'll sometimes see ads matched to another recent email instead. For example, let's say you're looking at a message from a friend wishing you a happy birthday. If there aren't any good ads for birthdays, you might see the Chicago flight ads related to your last email instead.

To show these ads, our systems don't need to store any extra information -- Gmail just picks a different recent email to match. The process is entirely automated: no humans are involved in selecting ads, and no email or personal information is shared with advertisers.

Google team will be rolling this out over the next few days. With this change, hopefully you'll see better ads in Gmail -- more of what you're interested in and less of what you're not.

Google Problems in Indexing New Blogger Posts

I'm just wondering if Google search is currently having problems in crawling and indexing new posts made on Blogger in this region (asia pacific). I notice that unlike the previous posts that I made on my blog that Google search immediately indexed as separate pages right after I press the publish button, Google Search seems to be taking a considerable amount of time in indexing my newer posts. I started encountering this issue earlier this week.

I also tried to check if other Blogger with custom domains (made in Asia pacific) are experiencing the issue and apparently, it's not just my blog suffering from this problem.

I really hope Google could shed some light on this and give word on when things will be back to normal. :)
I miss seeing my new blog posts posted immediately on Google Search results.
